English DJ Eve Carey started her career at the age of 17 “playing around the deck in a small recording studio.” It has been 15 years since then and there’s been no looking back for this DJ, who recently performed at F-Bar and is currently touring in India. However, she’s not new to India – a country she loves because of its “pure vibe and raw energy.” “This is my fifth or sixth time here in India, and fourth time in Delhi.
I love playing in the city as here you can play for longer hours; no one hounds you to shut it down and the crowd is really, really good. There is a whole lot of energy here in Delhi. I just love the people of India, they are so nice and really helpful,” says this DJ, who has played house, electronic and tech-house music earlier in several countries like China, Brazil, Russia and Australia.
When in India, how can you escape the Bollywood bug? Well, Eve’s caught it too, and she plans to remix Bollywood music next. “I’m looking forward to getting started on some good Bollywood remixes. A few DJ friends of mine, like DJ Akhtar, would be helping me out... I’m really keen on this project, and want to start as soon as I return to India in November. Bollywood movies are so peppy and upbeat. They’re good fun, with a whole lot of dancing and wonderful beats.” Eve, who has played alongside the world-renowned DJ Tiesto and DJ Eddie Haliwell, takes her work very seriously, so much so that she even loses track of date and time. “I do so much of travelling and performing, that’s there’s no time, at all.
“Being a woman in a man’s world, your work is never finished,” she adds. “It’s important for women to work hard and succeed in whatever field they choose to be in. They should work really hard to achieve their dreams, before family life catches up.”
So, has she been pressured to settle down now that she’s achieved so much? “You know the people in your life, who mean a lot to you and understand you, never ask you that. My friends and family have never asked me to stop what I’m doing, settle down and have a family and children. Whenever that’ll happen, it’ll be well and good, but not now. Now’s for work. Women nowadays need to take advantage of the fact that society’s more open-minded now, so there is much scope to succeed.” Eve is in love with everything Indian, “especially dal, I can have loads of that and I love the people here” so much so, that she calls Goa her second home.
“Every six months, I’m back there. It’s like I have a second base there, I can relax, unwind, take out a chair and sit for hours and just be myself. It’s my own little paradise. When I’m back in England, I start craving for the beaches and the vibe of the country. So, I’ll be back in November.” So, what’s keeping her busy apart from all the touring? “I’m looking forward to the release of “Rogue Elementz” and “Playing Around” in the next two months, so it’s going to be hectic till then.”
